What’s involved in an EV charger installation?

A typical or ‘standard’ EV charger installation involves:

• Pre-installation site assessment
• Cabling and hardware installation
• Mounting to your preferred location (wall, pole, floor)
• Software setup (if applicable)
• Final testing and commission
• Walk-through and hand over

A typical residential EV charger installation takes anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day, depending on the complexity and configuration.

Electrical safety, easy operation and appliance protection

A small number of installations may require additional electrical work. If required, this work is usually related to safety and compliance, usability and adequate protection for your Plusrite EV Charger.

Our experienced installers can accommodate any additional electrical upgrades required for your installation, with clear and transparent pricing options provided in advance.

What might cost extra

There are a number of variables which may or may not be applicable to your installation, which can impact the overall cost and installation timing.

Your installer will check critical things including the switchboard size and condition, power supply, existing wiring/cabling and environmental factors to determine these variables.

Your electrical system needs to be able to safely accommodate and power your new Plusrite EV Charger. So your installer may need to incorporate:

• Three-phase power upgrades
• Running additional cabling and/or re-wiring
• Switchboard upgrades (common for pre-2000 builds) including circuits, isolators, switches to bring it to compliant
• Difficult access (e.g. roof spaces, sub floors)
• Challenging conduit, trenching or wall penetrations (e.g. double brick)
• After hours work outside business hours

A Certificate of Electrical Safety (or state equivalent) can only be provided on completion of a safe and fully-compliant installation, to current electrical standards.

The process: next steps

Most installs are completed within 2 to 3 weeks, depending on your location and installer availability.

1. Choose your charger to suit your vehicle and your power supply.
2. Request a quote for installation with your details (address, switchboard photos, charger location).
3. We confirm your details within one business day via email and notes for the installer.
4. Site check and quotation by your assigned installer, who flags any additional electrical work (if required). Once the quote is accepted, the installer will book an install date directly with you.
5. Install day. A licensed electrician installs, commissions and tests your charger, then walks you through using it.
6. Compliance and handover. You receive your compliance certificate and start charging.

Strata or body corporate approvals are required by our installers before booking your install date. If you’ve chosen a three phase charger but your property is currently on single phase supply, please seek a quote to increase your power to 3-phase with your local distributor.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use your installer?

No. You’re welcome to buy a Plusrite EV charger on its own and arrange your own licensed electrician. The installation product is for customers who’d prefer the streamlined convenience of a single point of contact for both their EV charger purchase, and installation.

What if my switchboard isn’t suitable?

Your installer will identify any switchboard issues during the pre install check and quote any required upgrade or sub-board work before proceeding. You can choose to go ahead, postpone, or cancel without obligation.

Can I get a three phase charger installed on a single phase property?

Not without a supply upgrade from your distributor. We’ll let you know after your site check if this applies and we can either quote the supply upgrade or recommend switching to a single phase charger instead.

Do you install at apartments and stratas?

Yes, but strata and body corporate installations require approval from your owners corporation before we can book your install date. Get in touch before purchasing so we can confirm scope and likelihood of approval.

How long does installation take?

Most single phase installs take 2 to 3 hours. Three phase installs typically take 3 to 5 hours. You don’t need to be home for the entire install but we’ll need you on site for the start of the job and the final walkthrough.

Is the installation covered by warranty?

Yes. Installation work is covered by a 12 month workmanship warranty. The charger itself is covered by Plusrite’s product warranty (3 years).

What about commercial, fleet or multi bay installations?

For commercial, fleet, multi bay and destination charging projects, please contact our team so we can discuss your requirements and scope your project.

I’m in a remote or rural area, can you still install?

We service most of Australia. Some remote locations may attract a travel surcharge or longer lead time. Contact us before ordering with your address and we’ll confirm what’s possible.

Can I get an obligation free quote first?

Yes, and if you’re unsure whether your property requires additional electrical work, contact us with your address, a few photos of your switchboard and intended charger location. We’ll come back to you with an estimate.
