Street Light Poles

Street Light Poles

Galvanised street light poles in 3m and 4m, hinged and tapered options. Built to suit the full Plusrite solar street light range.

A street light pole is the structural foundation of any street, driveway or area lighting installation. Get the wrong height, the wrong diameter or the wrong material, and the entire installation underperforms — too short and the beam doesn’t spread, too narrow and the fixture won’t mount, the wrong steel grade and you’re replacing it within years.

Plusrite stocks a small, focused range of street light poles designed to pair perfectly with our solar street light range and standard mains-powered street lights. All our poles are hot-dip galvanised steel for long outdoor service life and pre-engineered to take Plusrite fixtures with no custom bracketing.

Pole types we stock

3m galvanised solar street light pole (PLS-3M/G)

The 3m pole suits driveway entrances, residential gateways, short walkways, body corporate common areas and any installation where a sub-4m mounting height delivers the right beam coverage. Recommended pairing: PLS-30W solar street light or smaller fixtures. → View product

4m galvanised solar street light pole (PLS-4M/G)

The 4m pole is our most popular height — the standard for residential driveways, car parks, rural property gateways, councils and commercial premises. Recommended pairing: PLS-90W solar street light, the most popular fixture in our solar range. → View product

Hinged light pole

A hinged pole base allows the pole to be lowered to ground level for fixture installation, maintenance and battery replacement — without working at height or hiring an EWP (elevated work platform). For councils, body corporates and any installation where periodic maintenance access matters, the hinged pole pays for itself the first time you avoid a cherry picker callout. → View product

Tapered light pole

The tapered profile combines structural strength at the base with a refined visual appearance up the shaft. Suited to architectural installations, premium commercial projects, hotel and hospitality entries, and any setting where a uniform-diameter pole would look industrial. → View product

Choosing the right pole height

Height matters because it determines the beam coverage area of the fixture mounted on top. Mount too low and the light pools tightly under the pole; too high and the beam spreads thin.

Pole height Best fixture wattage Pole spacing Typical use
3 m 30W 6 m Driveway entrances, residential walkways, garden paths
4 m (most popular) 90W 8 m Residential driveways, car parks, rural gateways, commercial premises
5–7 m 150W 10 m Larger car parks, body corporate roads, school grounds
7–9 m 240W 12–15 m Multi-lane roads, sports lighting, large industrial yards

These are the recommended pairings for the Plusrite solar street light range. Mains-powered street lights follow similar height guidance based on lumen output.

Why galvanised steel?

All Plusrite street light poles are hot-dip galvanised steel. Compared to powder-coated steel or aluminium, galvanised steel offers:

  • Significantly longer service life in coastal and exposed environments. Galvanising protects against rust through both barrier and sacrificial mechanisms.
  • Lower lifetime cost. A galvanised pole installed today can still be in service in 30 to 50 years with minimal maintenance.
  • No re-coating. Powder-coated finishes need re-coating after 10 to 15 years of exposure. Galvanising does not.
  • Australian-environment ready. From rural Victoria to coastal Queensland, galvanised poles handle every climate without the need for site-specific coating decisions.

Pole diameter and fixture compatibility

Plusrite solar street lights are designed to mount on poles between 45mm and 100mm in diameter. Our 3m and 4m galvanised poles are pre-sized to this range, so the fixture mounts directly with no adapter. If you’re sourcing your own pole or retrofitting onto existing infrastructure, confirm the pole diameter falls within 45–100mm at the mounting point before ordering the fixture.

Installation considerations

Street light pole installation requires a footing — typically a concrete pad or sleeve sized to the pole height and local wind loading. We recommend the following:

  • Concrete footing depth: 600mm to 1m for 3–4m poles, deeper for 5m+ poles. Confirm against local engineering requirements.
  • Wind loading: Coastal and elevated sites may need larger footings. Refer to AS/NZS 1170.2 for site-specific wind load calculations.
  • Hinged poles: Install with the hinge orientation accessible from a safe working position (not overhanging a roadway or fence).
  • Cable entry: For mains-powered installations, ensure the pole base is sealed and the cable entry is sized to your conduit. Solar installations don’t require cable entry.

For commercial and council installations, engage a structural engineer for pole specification and footing design. We can supply pole specifications on request for engineering assessment.

Frequently asked questions

What pole do I need for a Plusrite solar street light?

The 4m galvanised pole (PLS-4M/G) is the standard pairing for the most popular 90W fixture. The 3m pole suits the smaller 30W fixture or installations where you want the light closer to the ground. For 150W and 240W fixtures, taller poles (5–7m and 7–9m respectively) are recommended.

Can I retrofit a Plusrite solar street light onto my existing pole?

Yes, provided the pole diameter falls between 45mm and 100mm at the mounting point. This range covers most residential, commercial and municipal street light poles. Measure the pole diameter at the planned mounting height before ordering.

Why hinged instead of standard?

A hinged pole can be lowered to ground level for fixture installation, maintenance, battery replacement or repairs — without working at height or hiring an elevated work platform. For installations that will need periodic access (most solar installations need battery replacement around the 5–7 year mark), the hinged pole pays for itself the first time you avoid a cherry picker callout.

What’s the difference between hinged and tapered?

Hinged is a functional feature — the pole can be lowered for maintenance. Tapered is an aesthetic feature — the pole narrows from the base to the top for a more refined visual profile. They are not mutually exclusive (some poles can be both), but our standard 3m and 4m poles are straight uniform-diameter rather than tapered.

How deep does the footing need to be?

For 3m and 4m poles, a 600mm to 1m concrete footing is typical. Deeper or wider footings may be needed for taller poles, coastal sites or high-wind locations. Refer to AS/NZS 1170.2 and your local engineering requirements for site-specific specifications.

Do you deliver poles nationwide?

Yes. We dispatch from our Carrum Downs warehouse in Victoria with nationwide freight via standard freight providers. Long-length items (4m and above) require freight quoting — contact us for shipping to your postcode.

Do you supply concrete footings or installation services?

We supply the poles only. Footing supply and pole installation are typically handled by a local civil contractor or electrician. We’re happy to provide pole specifications and weight data for engineering assessment.

What warranty applies to Plusrite poles?

Hot-dip galvanised steel poles carry a 10-year structural warranty against rust and corrosion under normal Australian outdoor conditions. The warranty covers structural failure due to galvanising defect, not damage from impact, modification or installation in environments outside normal Australian conditions.

Was a smooth process, the order arrived the next day. I got it installed with my electrician in 2 hours. The Charger is working without any issues. The 22kV charger is used for our new EV EQE 350 Mercedes Benz. The Z-Box app that comes with the unit is awesome and easy to setup on the phone.

We visited their office after viewing video of Plusrite car charger. Ross explained how the charger works and showed us the one fitted at his office that he uses for his E car. We needed it for our Renault E tech. Ross was able to recommend an electrician to install and it works beautifully. Ross is happy to spend time with you and his experience with E cars means he has the answers to the questions you will have. Great product, fair price and really good service.

Amazing service. After ordering from Michael I expected the lights to take a week to get to Brisbane (like many items I buy from interstate suppliers), but no, these turned up the next business day. Well done.
