The Plusrite DL28-10-PRE is a 10W LED downlight with back-switch tri-colour selection. Choose between 3000K warm white, 4000K natural white or 5000K cool white at the time of installation, or change the colour temperature later by adjusting the back switch. One downlight does the job of three.

Designed for residential, commercial and hospitality interiors, the DL28-10-PRE delivers 850 to 950 lumens at the chosen colour temperature, runs from standard mains power, dims down to 3% on a wide range of dimmer types, and carries an IP44 rating that makes it suitable for bathrooms and other damp areas.

Where the DL28-10-PRE works best

The 10W tri colour downlight is the most popular wattage for general lighting across Australian homes and small commercial spaces. Common applications:

Residential interiors. Living areas, hallways, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms (IP44 rated), laundries and walk-in robes.

Hospitality. Hotel rooms, bars, restaurants, function spaces and reception areas where the colour temperature flexibility lets you tune ambience to occasion.

Retail and showrooms. Shop floors, fitting rooms, display areas and showroom ceilings — choose 5000K for a bright commercial feel or 3000K for a warmer, more inviting space.

Offices and consulting rooms. Workspaces, meeting rooms, reception areas and treatment rooms.

Compatible dimmers

The DL28-10-PRE works with a wide range of dimmer systems but not all dimmers on the market. Tested compatible:

• Trader Dimpala (recommended)
• Leading edge dimmers
• Trailing edge dimmers
• Universal phase-cut dimmers (most brands)
• C-Bus dimming systems
• Dynalite dimming systems

Known incompatibility: Clipsal universal dimmers have been reported to not dim this downlight reliably. If your installation uses Clipsal dimmers, we recommend either swapping the dimmer to a compatible model (Trader Dimpala is a direct, reliable replacement) or contacting us to confirm compatibility before purchase.

Installation

The DL28-10-PRE is supplied with a flex-in plug for fast installation. We recommend the following:

1. Cut a 93mm hole in the ceiling at the planned location. Confirm there is at least 60mm of above-ceiling clearance for the fixture body and driver.
2. Connect the flex-in plug to a standard ceiling rose or junction box.
3. Set the colour temperature using the back switch on the rear of the fixture before installation. The default position is 3000K.
4. Push the spring clips inward and insert the downlight into the cut-out. Release the clips to lock in place.

Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician.

Tri colour vs other Plusrite 10W downlights

If you don’t need colour flexibility, the fixed-colour DL30 series is a more economical option. If you want automatic switching for hallways, garages or walk-in robes, the sensor variant is the right pick.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the colour temperature?

The DL28-10-PRE has a small switch on the back of the fixture body with three positions: 3K (warm white), 4K (natural white) and 5K (cool white). Set it to your preferred colour during installation. The colour can be changed later by removing the downlight from the ceiling and adjusting the switch.

What dimmer should I use?

We recommend the Trader Dimpala dimmer for reliable, full-range dimming on the DL28-10-PRE. Leading edge, trailing edge, universal phase-cut, C-Bus and Dynalite dimmers are also compatible. Clipsal universal dimmers have been reported to not dim this fixture reliably — please confirm dimmer compatibility before purchase if your installation uses Clipsal.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP44 rating means the downlight is protected against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for bathrooms, laundries and other damp areas. It can be installed in zones 1, 2 and 3 of a bathroom (outside the immediate shower spray zone — refer to AS/NZS 3000 for current zone definitions).

Can I cover it with insulation?

Yes. The DL28-10-PRE is IC-F / IC-4 rated, meaning it can be covered with standard building insulation (batts, blow-in, or sheet insulation) without creating a thermal hazard. This makes it ideal for energy-efficient homes where ceiling insulation is continuous.

What size hole do I need to cut?

93mm cut-out diameter. The fixture itself is 110mm in diameter, so the visible bezel covers a 93mm hole with a small overhang. Confirm at least 60mm of above-ceiling clearance is available before installing.

Is the driver included?

Yes. The driver is built into the downlight body, so there’s no separate driver to wire in or fit above the ceiling. This makes installation faster and works well in shallow ceiling cavities.

How long will it last?

LED downlights of this type typically deliver 25,000 to 30,000 hours of useful life under normal residential use (3 to 4 hours per day). The 3-year manufacturer warranty covers premature failure.

Can I use it outdoors?

The IP44 rating allows for sheltered outdoor use (eaves, alfresco areas, covered porches) but is not suitable for fully exposed outdoor installations. For exposed outdoor downlights, look at our IP54+ rated outdoor downlight options.
