All BMW MY24 electric vehicles released in Australia feature a TYPE 2 CCS2 charge port as standard, which supports both single and three-phase AC charging (the CCS2 component is for DC ‘rapid-charging’ at public stations).

Earlier models

  • BMW i3 (2014-2021) and variants, including the BMW i3 REx Hybrid: All models support single-phase AC charging at a maximum rate of 7.4 kW. Models released between 2017-2021 also support 3-phase AC charging, at a maximum rate of 11 kW. 
  • BMW i8 (Hybrid): Both the BMW i8 Coupe MY14 and the BMW i8 Roadster MY18 support single-phase AC charging only, at a maximum rate of 3.7 kW (single-phase charger compatibility only). 

Single-phase BMW EV charger

The current range of BMW electric vehicles come with a home charging cable which only allows 3-phase AC charging at up to 11kW. Without a 22kW charger, you are unable to benefit from the fastest charging that your EV is capable of!
