Metal Halide LED Replacement Bulbs

Metal halide lamps are of an older, high-intensity discharge technology (HID) which was standard for street and large area lighting before LEDs. It is still a relevant technology across many existing industrial lighting installations due to the high luminous efficacy and strong color rendering index (CRI).

Metal halide lamps are known for producing the very bright, crisp white light required for many industrial and commercial lighting applications. Plusrite metal halide LED replacement bulbs provide the same powerful, high-quality illumination along with the improved performance, colour accuracy and energy efficiency of modern LED technology. See our product list below for a metal halide LED replacement bulb compatible with your specific lighting system.

Fully-compatible metal halide wattage-equivalents in LED

Plusrite’s range of metal halide LED replacement bulbs are compatible with common industrial metal halide and HPS light fixtures, with wattage-equivilents for:

  • T46 100W-250W globes (Plusrite LED 40W/T46/E40)
  • ED60 50W-100W globes (Plusrite LED ED60/20W/E27)
  • ED120 250W-400W globes (Plusrite LED ED120/65W/E40)

With Plusrite you can make an informed choice with accurate measurements and detailed product descriptions to ensure you get the right bulb that’s fully-compatible with your light fixture, and meets your illumination needs.

Plusrite’s range of metal halide LED replacement bulbs

Plusrite metal halide LED replacement bulbs are specifically designed to suit the dimensional specifications of your existing MH/HPS lighting fixtures and offer the same bright, industrial-grade illumination as your older metal halide lamps – with excellent colour rendering.

  • Tubular (T46) or elliptical dimpled (teardrop/ED)
  • 3K, 4K or 5K CCT colour temperature options
  • 46mm, 60mm or 120mm diameter bulbs
  • Industry-standard Edison Screw-in cap bases (E27/E40)
  • All products CRI >80 colour accuracy

Our range guarantees the high-quality illumination you need, that’s compliant and consistent with your older metal halide lamps.

Plusrite 40W/T46/E40 (T46 100W-250W wattage-equivalent replacement)

A modern LED replacement for older, inefficient T46 bulbs (tubular-shaped with 46mm diameter). It suits light fixtures with a large 40mm Edison Screw socket (E40) common in high-powered, high-intensity industrial and commercial lighting.

The Plusrite 40W/T46/E40 is 40W LED wattage-equivalent for 100-250 watt consumption metal halide or high-pressure sodium lamps. It has a maximum overall length of 230mm and colour temperature (CCT) options of 3K (6900lm 159LPW), 4K (7000lm 165LPW) or 5K (7100lm 170LPW).

Plusrite ED60/20W/E27 (ED60 50W-100W wattage-equivalent replacement)

This is an “elliptical dimpled” (ED) or teardrop-shaped bulb with a 60mm diameter (at its widest point). It is a modern LED replacement for older traditional light fixtures with a standard 27mm Edison Screw-in socket (E27 is widely used in residential and commercial lighting and the same base you would find on a typical household light bulb in Australia).

The Plusrite ED60/20W/E27 is a 20W LED wattage-equivalent for 50-100 watt consumption metal halide and high-pressure sodium lamps. It has a maximum overall length of 196mm and colour temperature (CCT) options of 3K (3400lm 175LPW), 4K (3500lm 175LPW) or 5K (3600lm 175LPW).

Plusrite ED120/65W/E40 (ED120 250W-400W wattage-equivalent replacement)

This is an “elliptical dimpled” (ED) or distinct, elongated, teardrop-shaped bulb with a large 120mm diameter (at its widest point). It is a modern LED replacement for metal halide and HPS light fixtures with a 40mm Edison Screw-in socket.

As a 65W LED wattage-equivalent for 250W-400W metal halide and HPS light fixtures, the Plusrite ED120/65W/E40 bulb is designed for large, very powerful lighting in commercial and industrial settings where very high levels of illumination are required. It has a maximum overall length of 292mm and colour temperature (CCT) options of 3K (11900lm 185LPW), 4K (12000lm 185LPW) or 5K (121000lm 185LPW).

It is also compliant with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances or Directive 2002/95/EC) and CE (EU) standards.

Why upgrade your metal halide lamps to LED bulbs?

Metal halide fixtures are still relevant across many existing lighting installations, however compared to modern LED technology there are significant disadvantages such as long warm up time, colour shift and low energy efficiency, being the common reason most operators take the leap and upgrade.

Save on running costs (higher return on investment)

LEDs have a significantly higher luminous efficacy (LPW or Lumens Per Watt) than metal halide lamps, meaning each bulb produces more visible light (lumens) for each unit of electrical power (watt) it consumes. Reduced energy usage directly translates to lower electricity bills, a longer lifespan and less frequent replacements. Plusrite metal halide LED replacements range from 158-185 LPW.

Lifespan and performance

For metal halides, the process from ignition to full brightness can take several minutes and if the power is interrupted, the lamp must cool down before it can restrike and begin the warm-up process again which can inconvenience operations. LEDs provide immediate, full illumination when switched on.

The light output of a metal halide lamp can decrease significantly over its lifespan and the color of the light can change as the lamp ages (“color shift”). LEDs retain their illumination properties more consistently over time and have a higher CRI (Color Rendering Index) for color accuracy.

Energy efficient and eco-friendly

LED lighting consumes much less power than metal halide lamps, so upgrading to LEDs significantly reduces the carbon footprint of your business. LEDs are also a more “earth friendly” option due to the presence of hazardous materials in metal halide lamps (mercury), which requires special disposal procedures (a broken outer bulb of a metal halide lamp can also pose a safety hazard).

Plusrite metal halide LED replacement bulbs are an eco-friendly, cost-effective and energy-efficient upgrade for any business. Switch to LED and benefit from energy savings of more than 70%.

Plusrite also supplies a quality range of Standard Metal Halide Lamps, LED High Bay Lights, LED Area Lights and LED Solar Street Lights. Check out our Past Projects portfolio and see our industrial lighting in action.

FAQs

Why is MOL important when buying metal halide LED replacement bulbs

Maximum overall length (MOL), represents the longest possible dimension of the bulb and includes every part of the bulb—the glass/plastic shell and the entire base assembly. When upgrading your older metal halide bulbs (especially inside enclosed fixtures like street lights and some high-bays), it’s critical that the maximum overall length (MOL) of your new bulb is less or equal to the available space inside the fixture, otherwise it simply won’t fit. So you need accurate specs for both your light fitting, and the new globe.

With Plusrite you can make an informed choice with accurate measurements and detailed product descriptions to ensure you get the right bulb that’s fully-compatible with your light fixture, and meets your illumination needs.

What is LPW?

LPW stands for Lumens Per Watt. It is the primary measurement of luminous efficacy (another way of saying its energy efficiency). The LPW tells you how much visible light (lumens) a bulb produces for each unit of electrical power (watt) it consumes. A higher LPW means that more light is produced for less energy.
