Project Summary
Red Hill Auditorium is a large outdoor entertainment venue in Western Australia hosting live music, festivals, theatre and more. It sits in a nature-based setting located 40 minutes from Perth, adjacent to John Forrest National Park.
The venue is responsible for providing adequate visibility for event attendees and staff to safely utilise and navigate the car park area at event times (which often fall at night). This lighting must satisfy local laws and comply with Australian Standards relevant to car park lighting for public events.
Red Hill Auditorium is a carbon-negative venue and they are independently verified and audited each year, to confirm compliance for this pledge. The client seeks eco-friendly, sustainable solutions wherever possible.
For this project the client sought a suitable commercial lighting solution that aligned with their operational needs and environmental values (something solar, energy-efficient and budget-friendly).
Products
Plusrite supplied Solar LED Street Light PLS-240W (x77 pieces) for the The Red Hill Auditorium Car Park project. The features of this product are a great fit for outdoor venues in remote environments requiring sufficient visibility for public safety such as tourism attractions, recreational parks and reserves and cultural venues.
This product is an energy efficient, solar-powered option requiring no new electrical infrastructure or underground cabling, offering itself as an eco-friendly, cost-effective solution. The 240W option suited this application and satisfied the client requirements (and more):
- Solar-powered – aligns with the environmental values of the venue
- 240W option – these lights comply with AS/NZS 1158.3.1:2020 standards
- IP65 rated – protection from dust and liquid ingress in remote locations exposed to weather
- Remote controller (including ON/OFF switch) – benefits seasonal operations of Red Hill Auditorium
- Energy-efficient LED technology – better illumination through dust and fog (great for the remote bushland setting)
- RoHS compliance – eco-conscious production restricts the use of six hazardous materials found in electrical products
- Reduced installation cost – no mains power required
Plusrite provided advice regarding lighting design and determined that 77 pieces (with 20 metre spacing) were required due to the compliance requirements for illumination in this setting and the size/shape of the car park.
Other key considerations for this design included illumination at key access points (entry and exit safety) and the positioning of surrounding trees (which can affect access to solar for charging).
Red Hill Auditorium provided excellent feedback and contacted Plusrite again in mid-2023, seeking an eco-friendly lighting solution for the bush walkways onsite. Read more about the Red Hill Auditorium Bush Walkway Lighting project.
